If you would rather guide your plans by seasons in Utah, we offer our own top tips for the time of year that works best depending upon your preferences: Moab Utah Travel Guide: How to Plan a Moab Wedding in Every Season. As a brief summary, these are the major differences you will find in the Moab desert weather throughout the year:

  • WINTER: fewer tourists on the trails, Downtown Moab is basically empty, and shorter days which means opting for midday activities.

  • SPRING: temperatures are perfect for all-day activities but it can get windy and cooler so it’s crucial to keep an eye on the weather. Ideal time of year for canyoneering, trail running, and horseback riding.

  • SUMMER: water activities including swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. River season means local runs and multi-day river trips. Activities are best done in the early morning and late evening due to the extreme heat.

  • FALL: Moab becomes a playground for all activities: canyoneering, hiking, river activities (in the early fall), backpacking, stargazing, and everything in between.

The fall is hands down the most popular and busiest time of year while it also ranks as our favorite for Moab weddings at The Red Earth Venue! Temperature changes can still be drastic so come prepared for warm days and cool nights. Apart from the fall, spring is the season that easily takes 2nd place for popularity and being a busier time of year.

This season is also ideal for Utah landscape photography as the wildflowers begin to appear. For other Moab photography, the summer has incredible sunsets, stargazing and astrophotography unlike any other time of year.

A common ground between the two extreme seasons of the year (winter and summer) is the escape that the surrounding La Sal Mountains provide. Positioned only 30 minutes away from Moab, The La Sal Range provides a break from the heat in the summer as well as backcountry activities during the winter: cross country/backcountry skiing and snowshoeing. You can also head to the mountains in the fall to see the changing leaves!

This local alpine mountain range reaches 13,000 feet offering hiking, mountain bike trails, camping, hunting, skiing, and fishing encapsulated by pines, aspens and alpine lakes. It is such an awesome getaway!
